WE WANT TO OVERWHELM THE MINISTER OF TRANSPORTATION’S OFFICE WITH LETTER RESPONSES!

HISTORY:

The Hwy 60 rail over pass has been on the Acheson Business Association agenda since before the Association existed.  Elevation drawings were done by Alberta transportation and they  were presented to the Association in 2007 and then again in the Spring of 2008...changes of Transportation Ministers (and Premiers) over the years, along with changing priorities, funding, etc has caused some challenges and delays.

Board representation, President Wes Wall, Past/Founding President Cathy Dool and Executive Director Carolyne Saumer, met with Transportation Minister Luke Ouellette and Minister Doug Horner this spring ('09) and asked to be put on the "3 year plan" for the overpass.  While we have not been made any promises, they are very aware of the need for the rail overpass as safety and volume issues are a huge concern.  Alberta Transportation has reviewed the possibility of doing the overpass in phases (Phase #! - CN Rail Overpass, Phase #2 Twinning, Phase #3 Hwy 16A Overpass Twinning) .  There are significant dollars required and we have been told that the programming of this project will be subject to budget availability and competing provincial priorities.  In order to be ready for when this project makes their program, they are finalizing designs, securing right of way, and preparing the necessary agreements with utility companies and CN Rail.

Communicate to Minister Ouellette and Deputy Premiere Horner with your concerns and desires to have the rail overpass elevated to a higher priority (put on the 3 year plan).

Thank you to those of you who have faxed or emailed your letters.  We have had a fantastic response but we want to OVERWHELM the Minister's office.  Please send your letters today (get all of your employees to sign too) - Let's make a statement!

Together we can make this happen!
