The results for the 2016 Make a Difference Christmas Campaign are in! WAY TO GO ACHESON!
At the onset of our 2016 Make a Difference Christmas Campaign, we really weren’t sure if we could make our goal. Given the economy, the Spruce Grove Kinettes and Stony Plain Kinsmen were expecting up to 1,500 families to come forward requesting Christmas Hampers. As daunting a goal as that was, the ABA team simply resolved to move forward and do the best we could to get the word out about the increased number of families in need this year. As it turned out, the total number of families registered to receive hampers throughout the County was up from 900 last year to 1,100 this year, not quite as high as originally anticipated.
In early November, with Jandel Homes on board once again to ‘Fill a House’, the Acheson Fire Station in place for it’s inaugural launch as a ‘Donation Drop Spot’ and the ever popular ‘Santa Run’, we kicked off our Make a Difference Christmas Campaign. Jandel Homes began by hosting a Cocktail Reception and Silent Auction which raised $5,200. Then they began filling the house by calling for corporate sponsors to ‘adopt a room’. Answer the call, they did in a big way and the rooms began to fill.
On December 12, the ABA volunteers picked up 4,400 lbs of donations from the Jandel Fill a House. On November 16, the ABA Cocktail Reception Silent & Live Auction was hosted at Jen-Col Construction that saw $9,800 come in – a very positive start!
Then came distribution of posters and boxes all over the Acheson Industrial Area and beyond to collect donations of toys and non-perishable food.
The efforts to raise as much as possible began. Acheson companies ran competitions, challenges, bake sales, sold meals to employees and many other wonderful events to bring donations in. Once again, businesses and private donations came in from not just Acheson but from all over the county and even Winterburn.
On December 12, Santa, Mrs. Clause, our ever loyal elves and the fleet of drivers from both Strongco Corporation and Hayworth Equipment collected donations from our Santa Run and the Acheson Fire Station and saw another 6,600 lbs. of food and toys and $9,500 in monetary donations collected.
So … between the Fill a House, Fire Station and Santa Run, just over 11,200 lbs of food and toys and $25,035 was raised and collected. YOU DID IT ACHESON!
Ed Berney from the Stony Plain Kinsmen Hamper Program reported that once again, each child in every family register will receive 3 toys under their tree this Christmas.
THANK YOU TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON AND BUSINESS THROUGHOUT THE AREA FOR ALL OF YOUR EFFORTS AND KINDNESS. ONCE AGAIN YOU TRULY HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE!
