2024 Board of Director Nominations

The Acheson Business Association is a membership driven organization steered by a Board of Directors. Our actions and goals are guided and supported by our three value pillars of acting as a voice for our membership, as a resource hub for providing and sharing vital, relevant, and timely information and as a connector bringing businesses and stakeholders together to facilitate meaningful business opportunities to build better business connections for our members.
Serving as an Acheson Business Association Director is an exciting opportunity to help further the continued growth, development, and success of the Acheson Industrial Park.

ABA members in good standing who would like to contribute to the strategic direction and significantly impact the Association and the Acheson business community are invited to stand for election to our Board of Directors.

We have two Director positions open for Individuals working in businesses in good standing in Acheson and one Associate Member position for members in good standing in business outside of Acheson.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Member in good standing with the ABA by way of paid membership dues
  • Nominated by an ABA member in good standing

What qualities make a good candidate for the Board?

  • Acts in the best interest of the Association and its members
  • Passionate about helping to grow and move the Association forward
  • Strategic thinker
  • Collaborative spirit and relationship builder
  • Represents a variety of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives
  • Team player

Board Responsibilities:
The Board of Directors is responsible for stewardship of the ABA and overseeing the organization's management. They provide strategic leadership to the organization, determine the vision and mission, and help set priorities to achieve its mission. The Board is accountable to the membership.

Role Commitments:

  • Attend monthly Board meetings, (2-3 hours a month)
  • Attend a yearly strategic planning session/review (6-7 hours once a year)
  • Participate in other committees where necessary (2-3 hours a month)
  • Attend ABA events, Gala, AGM, Golf Tournament, Christmas Campaign, Developers Breakfast
  • Act as an ambassador for the Association and promote its work in the business community
  • Develop policy frameworks
  • Ensure the organization’s financial viability and sustainability

As a Board, we embrace diversity and inclusion and are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills.

All eligible candidates meeting the criteria are asked to submit their intent by October 25, 2023. Voting will take place at the AGM on Wednesday, November 8th.

Nomination Process

Nominations can come from ABA members in good standing, and the nominee must be an ABA member in good standing.

A nominating committee will review all nominations and identify candidates who best meet the needs of the board and the ABA.

The candidates chosen by the nominating committee will be presented to the membership for a vote.

The voting process will be one vote per member. The votes will be tabulated, with each position being filled in order with those receiving the highest number of votes.

Voting will be done by ballot at the AGM. Those who cannot attend the AGM will be able to vote by sending a company email with their choice to jherrick@achesonbusiness.com no later than noon on Monday, November 6th.
